Building and Evolving an Enterprise Billing Management Platform
Ongoing engineering responsibility for a billing platform handling custodial fee rules, invoice generation, operational cutoffs, batch processing, and downstream financial integrations.
Client context
A large US wealth-management organization relied on an internal billing platform for critical finance and advisor operations.
The challenge
The platform needed to support complex custodial and trust-entity billing arrangements, controlled financial cutoffs, resilient batch processing, and modernization without disrupting monthly or quarterly operations.
Our role
We acted as an embedded engineering partner supporting the platform's ongoing evolution across billing rules, access controls, integrations, reporting connections, interface work, and infrastructure-related fixes.
Key workstreams
Billing rules and invoicing
Expanded validation around custodial and trust-entity workflows and updated invoice-generation templates for standardized PDF statements.
Financial cutoff controls
Implemented lockdown behavior to restrict edits during sensitive processing windows and strengthened role-based permissions.
Batch automation and integrations
Maintained ActiveBatch/ABAT integration endpoints, diagnosed high-volume timeout issues, and supported downstream systems and Tableau reporting connections.
Platform modernization
Supported UI updates, legacy server migration paths, and memory-related export fixes without requiring a disruptive replacement.
Outcome
The work improved the reliability and maintainability of an established platform directly tied to financial operations, while helping it evolve without interrupting the billing cycle.
